Membership is open to both Residents & Ratepayers of Ohakune.

Over the past few months, it’s become apparent that some councillors do not see dual rate payers as a part of the community; this is a serious issue considering around 60-70% of rates come from those with holiday homes. There are certainly some councillors past and present that have advocated for dual rate payers, however the society ensures our voice and views are not ignored & council is held to account for their actions.

We will be taking an active role in the current Teitei issue, but hope in the future to work with council for the benefit of everyone, in a constructive and transparent manner; so we don’t find ourselves in this situation again.

It is very important that we all have an equal vote and that everyones voice is heard, that everyone, be it resident or ratepayer, have the opportunity to be consulted on matters of importance & can all help guide the direction of our town
